A ceremonial and humorous anniversary celebration at the Leonardo-Campus

Last Friday the Institute for Information Systems celebrated its 20th anniversary together with students and invited guests, amongst them many alumni and partners from research and praxis. The celebration started with an opening speech by Professor Gottfried Vossen, speeches of welcome by mayor Vilhjalmsson representing the city of Münster and by Dr. Marianne Ravenstein, the prorector of the Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität. Afterwards Professor Becker, the managing director of the institute, dared to depict future prospects. In a humorous way and with “a certain distance”, Professor Heinz Lothar Grob being an emeritus professor of Information Systems recalled the last 20 years. Professor Mathias Weske from the Hasso-Plattner-Institute in Potsdam presented his Münsterian roots by giving a speech on the consistency of process models. As a pioneering student of Information Systems and meanwhile senior manager at Steria Mummert Consulting, Lundgar Seiling delivered interesting insights into the job as consultant. The following evening programme continued to be entertaining: the Münsterian ensemble “Impro 005” performed an improvisation theatre show and the infamous professor band “Economix” got the audience rocking and ensured an atmospheric finale of a significant day.
The Institute for Information Systems was established within the Faculty of Economics of the Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität Münster in 1990. Today more than 100 persons are employed: besides the six professors just about 50 members of staff and more than 50 student assistants work in the Institute at the Leonardo-Campus. The European Research Center for Information Systems (ERCIS) combines the research activities of the chairs as well as their partners. In the current CHE ranking (dating from May 2008) Information Systems in Münster is the undisputed number 1.
