University of Gdansk

With almost 33,000 students in the nine faculties and 1,700 academic staff members the University of Gdansk is the largest institute of higher education in the Pomeranian region. It offers the possibility of studying in almost thirty different fields with over a hundred specializations.
The Department of Business Informatics of University of Gdansk is involved in research and teaching in the field of business informatics, on the Bachelor, Master and Doctoral level according to Bologna process standards. The Department is the main contributor to e-learning Educational Platform of University of Gdansk. Department of BI is also the organizer of Pomeranian Regional CISCO Academy conducting the numerous courses educating the computer network administrators with international certificates. The projects of several students were distincted in organized by Dublin University, International Business Informatics Challenge in 2006 and 2007. The Department has conducted the Observatory of Pomeranian Digital Economy. In 1995 the Department has founded Polish Society for Business Informatics. The following international, educational and research initiatives of the BI Department has been carried out in the recent years:
- TEMPUS Joint European Project (1994-97) in cooperation with Universities in Barcelona and Lisbon - "Restructuring of existing and establishment of new forms of Business Informatics Education"
- “BITNET: Promotion and Dissemination of Information Society Research in Baltic Sea Area”, 5th Framework Program of EU (2003-2004)
- „System of Electronic Business for Pomeranian SMEs (2004-2007)
- „Academic on-Line courses – the concept and implementation (2008-2010)
The Department of Business Informatics of University of Gdansk cooperates with academic centers of Baltic Sea Region in the following transbaltic initiatives:
- BSVC – Baltic Sea Virtual Campus, consortium developing and implementing e-learning courses
- BIR – Annual International Conference on Perspectives in Business Informatics Research
- Doctoral Consortium MINE – Methodologies For Interactive. Networked Enterprises, financed by the Nordforsk Council of Ministers
