University of St. Gallen
The Institute of Information Management at the University of St. Gallen (IWI-HSG), founded in 1989, is an autonomous research institution affiliated to the University of St. Gallen (HSG). The institute’s budget is provided through private research mandates (more than 80%), teaching commitments at HSG’s M.A. in Information, Media and Communication Management as well as Ph.D. in Management (Business Innovation) programmes, and executive education degree programmes such as Executive Master of Business Engineering (EMBE HSG) and Diploma in IT Business Management.
Research at IWI-HSG is conducted mostly in form of competence centers (CC). In a CC, IWI-HSG coordinates and moderates several companies in developing an innovative solution approach to an important, relevant design problem in information management. All nine current CCs make up the research programme “Business Engineering HSG”.
Currently IWI-HSG is comprised of five departments, each headed by a full professor (Andrea Back, Walter Brenner, Reinhard Jung, Hubert Österle and Robert Winter). Some 15 Post-Docs and 40 PhD students are employed.
