University administrations are increasingly compelled to disclose their processes and structures and to prove the efficiency of the administrational acting. Administration structures at German universities, which evolve over years, are often not transparent to the University executives as a result of personalized knowledge and insufficient documentation. However, it is necessary to know the processes and organizational structure of the administration well in order to be able to make the right organizational and personnel decisions. Therefore, the generation of process and organizational transparency has developed to an important aim of the reorganization in Universities. Students are increasingly understood as clients who request the services of the university administration. To survive in the competition between educational institutions, it is essential to allow the students easy access to these administration services.

The University of Münster addresses these current challenges with the project “Modern Administration” (MoVe). The declared goal of this project, which was initiated by the rectorate, is to analyze the processes of the university administration to identify reorganization potentials. For that purpose, the Software MOVE Provi was developed in cooperation with the ERCIS. This software makes it possible to model all business processes of the administration in a concise and practical way. 169 business processes were captured. Potential changes in the workflow or in competences can be recorded by participants themselves. An extensive service catalogue should make searches for contact partners or further information easier in the future.
