FlexNet

Adapting to continuously changing environmental factors is a significant challenge for hybrid value networks, which are designed to provide smooth interaction between manufacturers and service companies. Efficient cooperation in networks on the other hand demands both integrating information systems and an organizational alignment of business processes. It is the aim of FlexNet to provide a flexible and adaptable information systems architecture for an efficient cooperation in hybrid value networks, while simultaneously allowing for the flexibility to adapt to a dynamic environment.

From an organizational theory point of view, the envisioned information systems architecture provides process building blocks that can be assembled to support business processes in the context of particular value networks. Information flows, material flows, control flows and financial flows embodied in reference models can be used as a fundament to design adequate business processes in this scenario. By providing reference models, efforts to design context-specific solutions are also reduced and the resulting configuration is of higher quality.

From a software engineering perspective, the information system architecture provides software components to execute hybrid business processes. These components can be combined flexibly and impose far less barriers on integrating software systems than traditional concepts. The architecture furthermore enables software companies to rapidly design sufficient software components for smoothing the transfer of information.

During the project, a selection of software components and services will be implemented and deployed in real-life companies. Thus, results are validated in a competitive context and insights are more effectively transferred for practical use.
