Wroclaw University of Science and Technology

Department of Applied Informatics

Wroclaw University of Science and Technology (WUST) is a public institution founded in 1945, but its academic legacy dates back to the Lviv University when King John II Casimir of Poland in 1661 issued the diploma granting the city's Jesuit Collegium. Now WUST belongs to the best universities in Poland – over 32 000 students study here under the guidance of around 2 000 academic teachers, at 16 faculties. Recently, the position in the research and teaching field places WUST among the best four universities in Poland. For example, the University is ranked first in the category of innovation, which takes into account inter alia the number of patents. The degrees awarded by WUST, e.g. the HR Excellence in Research logo, are a symbol of high quality of research and education, confirmed by the European Commission, National Accreditation Committee and the Accreditation Committee of Universities of Technology.

The Department of Applied Informatics (DAI) was established at the Faculty of Computer Science and Management by the Rector of the Wrocław University of Technology on January 1, 2020. The DAI Department consists of 51 Computer Science scientists. The Head of the Department of Applied Informatics is Professor Ngoc Thanh Nguyen. The DAI Department was composed of computer science research workers coming from two departments, being closed down, namely Division of Information Systems and Division of Software Engineering. The DAI Department follows the tradition and achievements of them both.

Within the department there are two divisions:

The division of Information Systems within which four teams can be distinguished: Team Computational Collective Intelligence, Team Internet and Multimedia Information Systems, Team Machine Learning, and Team Knowledge Engineering.
The division of Software Engineering and Data Science within which three teams can be distinguished: Team Software Engineering and Data Science, Team Security and Reliability of IT Systems, and Team Database Systems.

Wroclaw University of Science and Technology is ERCIS member since 2017.
